Small Groups

Q: How many people are in a group?
A: Usually 6-10. Some groups grow to as many as 12-14, but when they get that size, we like to see them “birth” into two groups.

Q: What does a typical Small Group gathering feel like? What can I expect?
A: A typical group gathering lasts about an hour and a half. About half of that time is spent catching up and just enjoying one another around some coffee (and sugar cream pie, if you are lucky…and yes, we do encourage some healthy snacks as well), and the other half is spent with the group, collectively sharing in a Bible study and prayer time.

"Small group really helped us get to know people and feel like a part of the church."
—Dan Dinsmore

Q: You had me up to that “collective sharing and study” stuff!  What if I don’t want to share or pray?
A: Everybody is wired differently and our Life Group leaders are sensitive to that. No matter how you are wired, we can find the right group for you!

Q: That brings up another question I have. What if I get in a group that, well, just doesn't work for me?
A: We work very hard to try to find the right fit for each person, or couple, in a group. But in all our groups, there will be some “check points” that are designed to allow people to check out a group without making a long-term commitment. We have men’s groups, women’s groups, couples, we have groups that are more focused on discipleship, some more focused on relationships, and some that are more "life phase” type groups designed to help one another through some of those tough times.

"My small group has helped me in many ways. We pray for each other’s needs and families and have Bible study. We get together for meals and fellowship and if I ever need help with a project, I know I can call on Chad Taylor & Jeff Jones. We’re part of God's family and each other’s families. I'm glad we can minister to each other’s needs."
—Larry Shepherd

Q: When and where (and how often) do groups meet?
A: That is one of the great things about small groups. Small groups can make a lot of their own decisions about what works best for them. Many of our groups meet on Sunday or Wednesday (opposite 2.42 nights) evenings, but we have had groups meet on about every day of the week. Some groups meet weekly, but the majority of our groups meet every other week/twice per month. We encourage groups to meet in homes, but some meet at the church.

Q: We have kids…how do groups handle childcare?
A: Each group determines its own approach to childcare. As much as possible, we encourage families to arrange their own childcare. Some groups trade childcare and some rotate childcare within the group between those that wish to be a part of the rotation.

Q: I think I (we) might like to try joining a group. How do I do that?
A: It's easy. Just send us a note and we will be glad to contact you!

"My participation in a small group has given me the chance to not only study God's Word in more detail, but to do it with other Christians who are just beginning to develop a relationship with Christ. Asking questions and having discussions in a small setting has been invaluable. I’ve seen that others have many of the same questions and struggles I do in trying to leave the world behind and get more in tune with what God wants in my life. Making friends with other Christians is crucial to my spiritual growth. Small group has given me the opportunity for that as well."
