How to Beat the Heat

Have you found yourself complaining about the heat and humidity this summer?

Remember back in January, after the 11th straight day of gray skies, bitter cold, and snow on the ground, you said, “I’ll never complain about the summer heat again!”

But you did.

Complaining doesn’t make things better. It just makes you feel worse. Philippians 2:14 says, “Do everything without complaining…”

If you can learn to develop a better attitude, life will go so much better for you (and those around you). God wants you to live with joy!

Here are 3 things to do when you find yourself complaining.

1.  Stop. Stop complaining, then change your attitude. You choose your attitude. Circumstances don’t determine your attitude; you do. 1 Thessalonians 5:16 says, “Always be joyful.”

2.  Look. Look at God’s blessings in your life. You will be surprised at just how blessed you really are. It’s hard to complain when you are thankful! Psalm 118:1 says, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.”

3.  Listen. Listen to God’s promises. There are so many promises from God to give you perspective on life. Going through difficulties? Listen to God’s promise for the troubles in life. “When troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing” (James 1:2-4).

Whatever it takes,
