What's With All the Cameras?

We live in a video-filled world.
Need to fix something? YouTube it.
Trying to learn something new? There’s a video for that.
Even Instagram went from photos… to basically all videos.

At The Ridge, we’re leaning into that so we can help people feel more connected, whether they’re sitting in the room or joining us online. We’ve recently added a new camera to the system, and you might be seeing more of it.

Here’s the heart behind it.

Our video team isn’t just trying to help people see better. They’re trying to help people connect better. For example, during a song, the lyrics are on the screens, and we lose the connection with the band and singers. But with the cameras, we can stay connected and engaged. We’re brought closer to moments we might otherwise miss from our seats—the expressions, the energy, the sense of community happening right in front of us.

But there is an even bigger story when it comes to our online stream. Every week, hundreds of people are tuning in, and for them, the cameras are their “eyes in the room.” As a video team, we strive to create a visually engaging story of the Ridge culture and the Ridge’s message of Good News. We want to help them feel like they are in the room with us, so we do our best to shoot in a modern, fast-paced style. We strive for quality. Because our God is worth it and our audience is worth it.

That’s where our new camera comes in. You might be seeing more of it around you on the floor and in the aisles. Don’t worry, it’s focused on what’s happening on stage (we’re not putting you on display!). But our hope is that putting a camera in these places will do more to help our online audience feel like they are in the seats with us, experiencing all that our services have to offer, as if they are right next to us.

So when you see a camera… think of it as the eyes of a guest. Hundreds of them, many of whom we’ve not even met yet, are joining us each week!

Whatever it takes,
Mark Malburg
