Adam's Blog: 10K Challenge
Sunday, September 11 was a celebration Sunday at The Ridge. We celebrated what God has done over the last ten years, and talked about what it means to continue to do whatever it takes to reach our community for Christ. If you missed it, I encourage you to go check it out!
We also announced how God is prompting us over the next year. As we've been praying for God to show us what it looks like to follow him and do whatever it takes, God has answered the prayer in a pretty awesome way. It's called the 10k Challenge: A Year of Service. Here’s what it is. We believe God has called The Ridge to serve in our local communities for 10,000 hours over the next year. We want to join God in what he’s already doing in local organizations, in non-for-profits, in helping our neighbors, and in serving other people as we reach them for Jesus.
This is not to make the name of The Ridge great. It’s to join in what God is already doing, and it’s a chance for us to live out this vision to do whatever it takes. We believe serving others for 10,000 hours in one year is a way to celebrate what God has done over the last ten years, and to be a part of what he’s doing now and for the next ten years.
10,000 hours is a God-sized goal.
That’s 833 hours a month.
It's 192 hours a week.
It's 27 hours a day.
That’s a lot.
How can you be a part of this?
Over the next year, there are going to be a lot of opportunities to serve in a lot of different ways. The Ridge will definitely curate some opportunities and make sure you are aware of them. You can also go and pursue your own ideas on how to serve the community because there are so many different ways to love people and help our friends and neighbors. Starting next week, you will get more details on what we can do together to serve. There are some really exciting things planned and we’re asking God to provide the right opportunities at the right time.
The only way this happens is through God’s provision and your participation.
Because if this is going to work - we need God to show up big time, and we need you to show up big time, too.
I believe God has uniquely gifted The Ridge to make a difference. We want to do whatever it takes to reach our community for Christ because God did whatever it takes for us. We want to join God in the work he is doing, and we want to celebrate what he has done, and anticipate what he will do. And I believe that God is going to show up in a mighty way. And I want to be a part of it. I accept the challenge.
Do you?
Here's how you can respond today. If you’re in, tell us here.
When you do that, it indicates that you want to be a part of it and you want to be made aware of serving opportunities in our community. That’s it. Filling out the form is saying that you’re in, that you care, that you want to serve and you want to be a part of what God is doing all around us.
